Pioneering in Tibet

‘Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations’ (Matt 28: 19) It is our prayer that those who have not yet heard the gospel would soon have the opportunity to know Christ.  The recent Tibet day was the start of a new work to reach this un-reached people group.

tibet1smlSince early 2007 a family from Community Church Bishops Stortford have been living in a strongly Tibetan part of Central Asia, learning the local language and preparing for a longer-term church-planting ministry among this unreached people-group. They have now reached the point where they feel ready to begin gathering a team to work with them in this pioneering situation. So, in order to facilitate this process, in July a number from the UK churches met at Community Church Bishops Stortford for the first Newfrontiers Tibet Day.

Mike Frisby, from City Church Cambridge, contributed to the day by providing a Biblical basis for cross-cultural church-planting. This was followed by presentations, outlining the background and beliefs of the Tibetan people and also an insight into the situation in which the family from Bishops Stortford are working (names are omitted for security reasons).

Church planting amongst Tibetan people is a new focus within Newfrontiers and something that cannot be openly broadcast, but it was clear from the interest shown on the day and also that shown during the subsequent Brighton conference, that tibet2smlthere are a growing number of people with a passion to see this fascinating, but desperately lost people, come to faith in Jesus Christ.

It is now possible to make exploratory visits to this Central Asian area in order to discern more clearly whether God is leading you towards personal involvement in this frontline church-planting situation. It is hoped that by 2010 we will be able to offer opportunities for Life Change Teams in the region, and already this year, five members of the Bishops Stortford church, and one member of ChristChurch London will be visiting. Could God be calling you to become involved too?
