North 07: Going further to reach the nations!
This year’s North 07 Bible weekend was an excellent opportunity to gather Newfrontiers churches from across the North of the UK to meet with God and enjoy fellowship and fun. Jeremy Simpkins, who leads the North team reports from this annual event.
What happened to the summer of 2007? Where was the heat wave, the dry weather? Whilst most of the country was experiencing the cold and wet, the sun spent the bank holiday weekend with 1,500 campers from 35 churches at the North 07 Family Camp. Even the Times reported ‘…the North York Moors experienced more sun than usual this August Bank Holiday weekend’!
The event was hosted by the apostolic team that serves the North - Northern Ireland, Scotland, Yorkshire & the North East of England – and we were joined by friends from far and wide including the Middle East and Auckland, New Zealand!
Last year Keith Hazell (Canada) prophesied about “massive storehouses” being built to house seed for the nations. This was literally fulfilled for us as we met in a brand new barn which will store grain during the rest of the year.
David Devenish (Woodside Church, Bedford), painted a magnificent ‘big picture’ of God’s missionary plan - to fill the earth with his glory by planting churches everywhere.
As one Elder wrote: 'I thought David was absolutely brilliant…I've never seen him so relaxed, informal, relational, but also had me on the edge of my seat hungry to hear the things he had to share'
We were encouraged that we had already touched the ‘farthest’ places of the world by church planting into Auckland, New Zealand last year - but now we were also called to reach the ‘hardest’ places. This was confirmed by the incredible response to the call for church planting - hundreds poured forward! Amazingly, the largest responses were for cross cultural mission – particularly towards post-Christian Europe, East Africa, Central Asia & the Middle East!
David prophesied that because the North has been birthed in mission – we are going to be one of the key sending bases for world mission! One of the main aims of the North Bible Weekend is to provide quality children’s work – we were certainly not disappointed as once again the ‘Going Bananas!’ event saw scores of children committing their lives to Jesus for the first time and being filled with the Holy Spirit.
Again, David prophesied that this was a major part of our apostolic calling - to invest into young lives and to raise up pioneers for God who will go further than their parents.
The event far exceeded our expectations. We feel caught up in such a magnificent purpose – to see churches planted all over the world and in so doing bring much glory to God! |
