Changed Lives: Ghana Life Change Team
Pete Keen (ChristChurch London) led a team of 15 from around the UK to Accra in Ghana this summer, to serve the City of God church. Here is his report of an amazing time serving the church in Africa. ‘On 8 August we headed for Accra, Ghana to serve the City of God Church with building work and evangelism. The three week adventure was even more life changing than we could have ever have imagined. We spent most of the first two weeks assisting the church’s ‘New Nation School’ with admin work and building a perimeter wall for the new school site. The physical but fun work was a great opportunity to bond as a team and with the Ghanaian team we served alongside. During that time we enjoyed a number of teaching and training seminars, which often led to open group discussions. There were many opportunities for us to step out in evangelism and prophecy. Despite it being initially daunting, everyone had a go and grew in faith. The outreach at the University saw us hand out leaflets for the campus cell group and pray for people. This resulted in six new students attended the meeting that night, three of whom gave their lives to Jesus. Praise God! We then travelled north up to the more rural Volta region, helping the church in evangelism for two days. In one afternoon of outreach we saw over 30 people pray to receive Jesus in their hearts. YES!! Back in Accra we stepped out in evangelism and team members were stopped on the street by people confessing their sins and wanting prayer. God gave us many opportunities to share the gospel and pray with families, builders, children and Muslims, and we saw 15 people ask Jesus into their lives. The team enjoyed fantastic trips through the jungle canopy, were jet-washed by a huge waterfall, chilling at a pool and beating the Ghanaians in an epic beach football match! For me a main highlight was our morning team times of worship, prayer and waiting on God. Daily the Holy Spirit would refresh, speak, minister, strengthen and it was exciting to see everyone step out, contribute, and grow. Our evening team times were a great mix of worship, prophecy, prayer, encouragement and crazy games. The Life Change Team has been one of the most significant investments I have made and has not only produced abundant fruit in Ghana but will powerfully impact our churches here in the UK. There are so many more stories I could share with you, but for those who may be considering a short-term mission trips I have two words…..DO IT!!’ |
