Youth have life-changing time at Newday

Two inspiring stories from the recent youth event in Norfolk. Jessica Scott was healed of a severe allergy on the Wednesday evening, and Kingsgate Church Bury St Edmunds saw 16 baptised the Sunday following Newday.

BaptismKingsgate Church, Bury St Edmunds took a record number of 46 young people, leaders and chefs to Newday in Norfolk this summer. Claire Mann wrote to us following the event to tell us about the impact the week had on their young people.

'We have been bringing young people to Newday for the past four years, and each time we've brought double the number of the previous year. This summer, we brought 17 people who had never attended before, including seven young people from Latvia.

Youth leadersOver the course of the week our team of youth leaders watched as God invaded the young people's lives for the better. Some took huge steps of faith and obedience, particularly in the area of forgiveness.

We looked forward with faith and anticipation to the salvation and healing evening, fully expectant that God would do great things with our young people, and He didn't disappoint! Eight made first-time or re-commitments to Jesus, and one girl was healed from weak and painful wrists. She cartwheeled around to show off her healing!

BaptismFollowing Stuart Gibbs' excellent teaching on baptism our youth worker team was able to gauge what stage each of our young people was at, which ultimately led to 16 of them being baptised the Sunday after Newday! Praise Jesus!

We have been wonderfully blessed over the summer, and are so thrilled at the work that God has started in these young people's lives.'

Jessica ScottJessica Scott, from Woodside Church in Bedford, stood on the stage at Newday and proclaimed that she had done a potentially life threatening thing. She had eaten a chocolate brownie. Not that impressive, you might think, but Jessica's egg allergy was so severe that she needed to carry an epipen with her at all times, and the Woodside camp site at Newday had been declared an 'egg-free zone'.

Jessica's testimony is that she felt God heal her during the worship time on the Wednesday evening, before Adrian Holloway preached. She ran to her parents and asked their permission to test her healing. An hour after she ate the brownie, she was still completely fine. To put this in perspective, when she had been tested in hospital, just a few cake crumbs sparked a reaction in about two minutes.

Since Newday Jessica has been to the doctor, who has referred her to the specialists. She has an appointment for later in the autumn, when they will repeat some of the tests that she had reacted to before, and will then be able to verify her healing. Let’s pray that this testimony brings much glory to God in the coming days!
