Building Churches in South Africa's Universities
At the end of January, nine members of ChristChurch London took to the skies bound for Johannesburg, South Africa to take part in their own Life Change Team. Joanne Wells was one of the team leaders, and she shares some of their adventures here.
 We went to Johannesburg to work with friends from GodFirst Church on the campus of Witts University and to get involved with all they were doing during ‘O’ week (Orientation Week, which is just like Fresher’s week in the UK). We were also going to be with them as they planted a church onto the neighbouring University of Johannesburg (UJ). For the previous year or so, GodFirst had been transporting 40 students from the UJ campus over to Witts to be part of the church there. The time had come to start a church on the UJ campus itself!
 As soon as we landed, we headed for the hills to a camp for their student leaders. We were so grateful to be there and spend time with everyone before the ‘O’ weeks began. We spent 24 hours together eating, laughing, worshipping and praying and, as we did, God began to share His heart for these universities with us. We asked God to share His heart for the city of Jo’burg and for these two universities and He answered this throughout the two weeks we were there. Somehow, simply because we prayed, we encountered God’s heart and passion for those people. As we prayed, He taught us how to pray.
 Although we weren’t able to stay for the first UJ Sunday meeting, we went to a service on Witts campus while we there and it was so much fun! 168 students piled into one of the lecture theatres, some to hear about God for the first time and give their lives to Him! When we returned to the UK we heard that the church welcomed 102 students to the first GodFirst service on UJ! Whilst we had been there we had all been praying for musicians to become part of this church and 23 signed up that day!
