Delhi Church Plant Update

The Delhi church plant is like the first fruit of our new day in India and we want this to be a very delicious fruit.
These words were spoken by Guy Miller at Together on a Mission India 2009, and it seems that God is at work to make it a tasty fruit indeed!
The church planting team lead by Samir Deokuliar is currently 21 people strong and a further 28 people are prayerfully considering joining them. Five people in the team already live in the city, while the others will move there including Tim & Liz Brown from Woking in the UK.
A small team went to Delhi in October 2009 in order to build friendships, find an area to live and a church venue. There were wonderful times of prayer and breaking bread together and God brought encouragement likening the team to Gideon ‘who with a small group saw the victory.’
God has confirmed through a prophetic message that the team should settle in the south west of Delhi to begin with, but there is a strong desire to build a city church that is large and resourceful, with a big vision and heart to bring a significant impact to the city, India and the nations. This desire has been strengthened by a prophecy which encouraged the team not to go with a mind set of getting one’s toes in the corner of the city, but rather plant one’s feet in the centre.
With this in mind it has been decided that city centre church meetings will be held and amazingly a family who live on the president’s campus right in the centre of the city have opened their home for church meetings. The next city centre meeting will be on 12-13 December 2009.
Prayer Pointers:
- That the team would come up with a good name for the church which will be suitable for
- the unbelieving in Delhi
- the international and English speaking community
- the Indian and Hindi speaking community
- That the Lord will continue to lead them by His Spirit
- For all the practicalities for the team members such as job transfers, housing, schooling and other relocation plans
- Wisdom for Samir as he recruits and forms a good planting team
- For protection over each team member as they begin this wonderful adventure and as they seek to make Christ’s name great and build a strong, large and vibrant church in the capital
