Israel and the Church

Ronald E. Diprose writes that, to him, the question of Israel had become “some kind of theological football that opposing teams of theologians kicked about in accordance with their particular agendas.”1 The challenge for me in writing on the subject is to avoid becoming yet another footballer, giving this particular ball yet another boot towards the opposition. However, the diversity of view among Christians on the subject of Israel and the Church, and its emotive nature given the events of the 20th century (the Holocaust and the establishing of a national State of Israel) should not deter one from tackling the issue (forgive the footballing pun!). On the contrary, it is because of such things that we are compelled to engage in the dialogue. >>
