Advance & Growth in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa & Dukem, Ethiopia
 Eden Genet Church of Ethiopia, located in Addis Ababa, officially opened its first church plant in January 2011, in the neighbouring town of Dukem. Property has been leased and a meeting hall has been constructed. Owen Baldwin, who is based in Ethiopia with his wife, Charlene, tells us more.
On January 19 approximately 70 people (including a busload from Addis Ababa) gathered at Eden Genet Dukem for a Marriage and Family Conference. Pastors Nebiyou Endale and Mieraf Kubede, as well as Charlene and I, spoke on various aspects of courtship, marriage, and parenting. We all shared in a delicious lunch of traditional Ethiopian food. The whole day was a wonderful opportunity for the people of Eden Genet in Addis Ababa and Dukem to get to know one another.
 On March 11-13 an outreach conference was held at the new facility in Dukem. Seven hundred posters were placed throughout the town in the days leading up to the event. The speaker was Pastor Steven Mayanja from Seguku Worship Centre near Kampala, Uganda. Steven and his wife Cissy have been dear friends of ours for over 20 years.
On Sunday afternoon, March 13th, approximately 350 people attended the service. Many responded to the call for salvation, healing and renewal of commitment to the Lord. We thank God that He is establishing this work on a strong foundation.
 Meanwhile, Eden Genet Addis Ababa continues to move forward. This year has been designated the “Year of Rest” on the Ethiopian calendar at Eden Genet. In September and October five different speakers presented on issues of resting from our own works and whole-heartedly entering into God’s works. In December and January the theme was godliness—exploring the mystery of Christ in us, the hope of glory.
In Addis Ababa we are still diligently searching for an expanded meeting place, with a larger hall, space for children’s ministry, and much-needed office space.
