Salt & Light in Sudan

Kapoeta, Sudan

Sudan has been divided by civil war between the North and South for decades.  Following a referendum held in January, Southern Sudan will secede on 9 July 2011.  In the midst of these significant events, Newfrontiers churches are growing and new ones are being established.  Miriam Buria tells us more.

Jimmy Lokuuda Kadanya is based in Kapoeta, Sudan and is helping to lead the growing work in the area.   At the moment, there are four centres of worship in Kapoeta, Riwoto, Nacilagur and Namerimugit, with plans in place to expand to Mogos, Napetait and Lomeyan among others.

It was wonderful to see 40 people baptised on Christmas Eve in 2010 and there are more baptisms scheduled for April this year.

The Referendum
During the referendum process, Jimmy was in charge of the county surrounding Kapoeta.  There have been a few  dissatisfied individuals who are causing conflicts near the northern border.  Please be in prayer for peace as the nation awaits the secession on 9th July and that people from amongst our churches will continue to be salt and light during the process.

Support from Kenya
Edward Buria, who is based in Kenya, is helping to establish a strong apostolic base in Sudan.  Jimmy and other upcoming local leaders in Sudan are part of the East and Central Africa Apostolic Forum, which Edward runs as a means of bringing together key leaders from the region.

People from Kenya in various professions are being encouraged to work in Sudan as a way of supporting the planting of churches and the preaching of the gospel. Edward and his team are planning to visit Sudan in April to encourage them and support the work there.
