News from North Africa

Newfrontiers has been involved in North Africa for the past twelve years. It began when a member of City Hope Church Bermondsey left to work there. Over the years he saw a few conversions and slowly built a team of indigenous believers. A leader working in the region tells us more.

Now numbering about ten the group formally joined Newfrontiers about four years ago.  It is in an international tourist city and has a vision to build a vibrant Spirit-filled church that can be an example to other believers in that nation. The last two years have been particularly difficult with a government led crackdown on Christianity that led to many expatriates being expelled and many groups giving up meeting for fear of being exposed.  In it all our group has remained strong, clear and confident in God's sovereign ability to build His church.  

We also have another church planting team in a large city. At present they are working to be known in a community that has no known Christians in it. This is a long term work building friendship and trust that will enable them to speak of their faith.

Please pray for:

• the whole of North Africa, that the present situations would result in greater peace, stability and openness for the gospel.
• for Christians to be able to come forward and contribute to the positive development of their societies.
• for our group to know the continued protection of God, courage to continue to witness and a deepening of their faith.
• in the words of Jesus, more workers in the harvest.

Niger

Niger is a land locked nation, 80% of which is Saharan desert. Its population is 99% Islamic but there is a certain freedom of religion.  Our relationship with the churches in Niger came through Moumouni and Shiona Koudougou who worked for many years planting two churches. They have since returned home, but have carried on building our relationship with the believers there.  They are not formally part of Newfrontiers, but we are looking to see how God leads in the coming years.

Please pray for:

• stability in the nation. The last three years have seen drought, floods and a military coup.
• leadership training applicable to their situation.
• God to raise up apostolic leadership in the nation.
